What one check-in stores

• A one-way hash of a random browser/device token so the same browser updates one check-in instead of creating another.
• A one-way hash of the network IP used only for duplicate/bot-rate controls. The raw IP address is not stored in the check-in table.
• Whether the anonymous check-in says Not Yet or Voted.
• The selected state and, if voluntarily selected, the congressional district. The district is entered directly by the visitor; we do not ask for or derive it from a street address.
• If a ZIP code is voluntarily entered, only its first three digits are retained. The full ZIP code is discarded by the server.
• Basic partner/UTM attribution when the visitor arrived through a distribution link.
• Timestamps needed to operate and protect the system.

What we do not ask for or store

• Name, account, phone number, or email address for the check-in.
• Exact GPS coordinates, street address, polling-place address, or precise device location.
• Party, candidate, ideology, intended vote, ballot selections, or how someone voted.
• Voter-file matching or cross-site advertising identifiers.

Duplicate and abuse controls

One random browser/device token represents one check-in. A Not Yet status can later become Voted; once marked Voted, the status is final for that anonymous browser identity. To reduce scripted duplication, new-device creation from the same network is rate-limited. Shared households and networks are therefore not treated as a single voter, but abnormal bursts are slowed.

Map privacy

The public map uses aggregate or deliberately coarse geography. It will not place a dot at an individual's real home, device, or polling-place coordinates. District and ZIP-prefix breakdowns can be withheld until enough check-ins exist to avoid displaying a highly specific one-person area.

Why we collect it

We collect these voluntary self-reports in an attempt to give all of us a broader public record of participation. That record is community-reported, not governmental or official, and it is not proof that any individual ballot was cast.

What the numbers mean

“Voted” percentages are percentages of people who voluntarily checked in through this site. They are not official turnout rates, scientific polling, voter-registration records, or proof that an individual ballot was cast.
